Bus Transportation Rules

rules    consequences    severe disruptions    rewards

Each year in the United States there are more students killed in the loading and unloading areas around the school bus than any other area of the bus.  We can save lives if we work together.  You can help us by reviewing these rules with your child and making sure that they follow them.  Your child's safety is our most important concern.  Always obey the bus driver.

  • Arrive at the bust stop no more than five (5) minutes before scheduled departure.
  • Behavior at the bust stop must be orderly.
  • Never run to or from the bus.
  • Stand back from the curb.
  • Don't push or shove.
  • Remain seated at all times in your assigned seat only.
  • Refrain from yelling or using foul language on the bus.
  • Refrain from eating and drinking on the bus.
  • Keep your hands and feet out of the aisle and to yourself.
  • Do not extend any part of your body out of the windows.
  • Remain in your seat until the bus door is completely open.
  • Students must get off at their assigned stop unless prior permission is granted by a school official.  Transportation is provided between a student's home and school only. Parents must provide transportation for students to visit one another.
  • Students must not cross the street until the driver motions them across.
  • Always cross at least ten (10) giant steps in front of the bus.
  • Never crawl under or pick up anything around the bus.
  • All of your property must stay out of the aisle at all times.
  • Students must not damage any part of the bus or other students' property.
  • There will no large objects, weapons, or animals allowed on the bus.
  • There will be absolute quiet at all railroad crossings.

Consequences

  • First Incident:  Driver verbally warns student and writes down name.
  • First Citation:   Driver issues citation which will be given to the school. Parent will    be contacted.
  • Second Citation:  Driver issues citation which will be given to the school.  Conference with parent, driver, school, and transportation official will be required and may result in suspension for up to five (5) days.
  • Third Citation:  Same as above only with the possibility of permanent suspension from transportation.

The following inappropriate behavior will result in immediate suspension of transportation privileges:

  • Physical harm or threat of harm to another student.
