Nutrition Tips

Eat Breakfast.  It is the most important meal of the day.  Like a car needs gas to move, breakfast is the fuel that gets you going at the start of your day so you can be your best all day long.  Kids who eat breakfast do better in school, are more likely and able to participate in sports, and research studies show, are more likely to stay at a normal weight throughout their life. Anything is better than nothing, but some things are better than most.  Here are some ideas:  Have whole grain cereal with low fat or skim milk.  Top toast with peanut butter and bananas.  Have some fruit and yogurt or cottage cheese.  Scramble a couple of eggs and toss some mozzarella cheese on top.  Make a fruit or vegetable smoothie.  Make a breakfast burrito by melting some cheese inside a whole grain tortilla.

Fitness Tips

Exercise, exercise, exercise.  Getting physical activity every day is just as important as eating right.  Exercise helps you do better in school and others view you as smarter. Every day you should be getting one hour of exercise.  You can play sports, dance or plan fun activities to do with your friends outdoors.

Health Tips

Get enough sleep.  Sleep is important for your body and your brain.  Sleep makes day-to-day activities easier.  You will do better on schoolwork, perform better at your sports, and get along better with your friends and family.  Sleep also helps protect you from getting sick AND can ensure you reach your full growth potential. On average, kids between the ages of 5 and 12 need 11 to 12 hours of sleep.

Try your hardest and take pride in your work.  Take time with your schoolwork and do the best you can.  If you don’t understand something, ask for help.  As long as you know you have done your very best, you will always feel good about what you accomplish.

Develop good work habits.  Write down your assignments and turn in your homework on time.

Be loyal. Stay true to yourself and do those things that make you feel good about yourself.  Also, be a good person and a good friend to everyone.  You will feel better about yourself and you will gain the respect of others.

Help in your community.  Do something that helps someone else or find an organization dedicated to a cause and volunteer to donate some of your time.
